Item #: SCP-1105

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: The object is to be kept in a standard 3x3x3 meter inanimate object storage cell with an adjacent observation booth equipped with monitors linked to security cameras inside the cell. At least one (1) guard is to observe this at all times, and being armed is not necessary unless dangerous and easily startled D-Class subjects are being used for experimentation.

No power outlets are allowed in the containment area, and the object must be moved to a testing chamber in order to be powered. Only D-Class subjects are allowed to activate the item, and only during testing.

If any agent or researcher should need to activate the lamp a second time, it is recommended that they wait no more than one (1) hour to order any D-Class personnel under their purview to activate the lamp twice, in order to transfer the effects away from the agent/researcher.

Description: SCP-1105 is a nondescript standing floor lamp, brand [REDACTED], model [REDACTED]. It stands approximately 1.2m tall, and is flat black in color, with material composition primarily being aluminum and copper. No anomalous materials are present in any analysis, and there are no extra components exist anywhere within its structure.

Results of the experiments conducted so far have indicated that the item possesses these effects, within the specific outlined time line:

First activation of lamp (Phase 0): No anomalous effects observed. Subject can walk away and live normally so long as they never reactivate the lamp. There does not appear to be any memetic effect, as test subjects do not seem to exhibit any strong desire to reactivate the lamp a second time, often citing it as "tacky" or "generic".

Second activation (Phase 1): Test subjects report shock at seeing a shadowy humanoid appear approximately one (1) meter away from the lamp, barring obstacles. At this Phase, the apparition (designated SCP-1105-1) stays within the 1 meter range of the lamp, and is never observed to move by test subjects, other than seeming to shudder rapidly, as if it "can't hold its shape" (as per D-32833's observation). This is nearing the end of the "safe phase" and it can last anywhere from 3 to 65 hours before moving into Phase 2. The length can be predicted by charting the length of time it takes for test subjects to report fears that SCP-1105-1 is following them, rather than staying within range of the lamp.

Phase 2: At this Phase, subjects report that SCP-1105-1 is constantly reappearing somewhere near them, no matter their distance from the lamp. They will turn in a room, and see it standing in a corner, though it is always in the area directly illuminated by a light source, as to be seen by its "victim" (current analysis has thus far rendered it impossible to determine if [DATA EXPUNGED]) and thus, the subject will attempt to enter areas of darkness, with lux levels ranging between █ and ██ but always invariably enough to make it impossible for the subject to perceive SCP-1105-1. This action proves to be futile, as when the subject enters such an area, they will immediately be [DATA EXPUNGED], resulting in death. Attempts to use night vision, FLIR, or active methods of sensing the room (even by ultrasound) have been met with the devices temporarily being disabled for a period ranging between 2 and 17 hours, making it impossible to determine whether or not SCP-1105-1 caused the victim's death, as is the current theory.

Discovery: The object was discovered in Northeast TN, owned by a student at East Tennessee State University. The student, a 22 year old male, lived in campus housing and had been given the lamp by a friend and roomate who was helping him prepare to move out of his father's house and into the dormitory with him. The victim had been discovered by the roomate as he was returning from a theater with several other individuals (providing his alibi), and he appeared to have been brutally murdered. However, the room was left in pristine condition and there were no signs of a struggle.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation opened a case, and investigated. After nearly 2 months, they could find no suspects, and Agent Samuel █████, who had been working undercover with the Bureau, spearheaded the investigation. He carefully had every object from the dorm brought to a Foundation evidence garage, and tested using standard protocol. Agent Samuel just happened to click the lamp on, off, and then back on, and was observed drawing his sidearm and aiming it at midair as soon as the lamp reactivated.

The other agents and forensic analyzers in the garage reported seeing nothing, and a testing period began. Agent Samuel was not subject to any of the late Phase 1 or Phase 2 effects because someone else later interacted with the lamp, and this effect was noted for later experimentation.

Once containment was established, D-32833 was asked to participate in experimentation with the object. D-32833 is a ██ year old female of average height and build, with average scores on all psychological evaluation tests, other than her tendency towards marked [DATA EXPUNGED], making subject the best candidate currently on-site for initial experimentation.

After rigorous testing, the effects had been catalogued, however the extensive experimentation eventually resulted in the death of D-32833 two weeks prior to monthly termination at the hands of SCP-1105.

Addendum 1105-1: Multiple tests have been performed on the entity, and so far attempts to cause more than one subject to perceive SCP-1105-1 have proven impossible, in all but one accidental occasion. All spectral analyses have shown nothing to be there, analogous to others attempting to view it by visible light only. However, if the lamp's current target attempts to observe it with FLIR, X-Ray, MRI, Ultrasound, Infrared, or [REDACTED], they will see a shadowy apparition on all of the images, despite the fact that some of these instruments should not be able to produce such.

However, if another person then activates the lamp, the previous subject can no longer perceive the anomalies in any of the images on which they have previously seen it.

The single attempt to activate the lamp using a remote controlled robot thus far has resulted in [DATA EXPUNGED], requiring the expensive and time consuming training of two more remote equipment operators. This is the only known instance of more than one person perceiving SCP-1105-1 simultaneously.
