The Rearrangement Ring
rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in Site 19’s high-value item storage locker. SCP-XXXX is not to be removed for purposes other than standard testing. No outward threat is currently believed to be posed by SCP-XXXX. Any personnel wishing to test the effects of SCP-XXXX are required to consult a Level 4 or higher personnel and the Foundation Ethics Committee.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small, golden1 ring, roughly 2 cm in diameter. "Forever Yours. J.W." is inscribed upon the ring. The identity of "J.W." is currently unknown.

When SCP-XXXX comes into contact with a human being for more than sixty (60) seconds, its anomalous properties manifest. Over a period of several days, various veins and tracts of the subject, or “starting points”, will slowly move into position. Each vein or tract will connect to another point on the subject’s body, henceforth referred to as an “exit point”. The distributions of which “starting points” connect to which “exit points” appear to be random, although the exact probabilities are still under extensive research. If a “starting point” is not long enough to connect to a chosen “exit point”, the “starting point” will extend until it reaches the point, typically causing great pain and distress to the subject.

Researchers have identified the following as " starting points ”.
-Trachea
-Spinal cord
-Esophagus
-Pulmonary artery
-Umbilical cord (see Addendum)

Additionally, the following have been identified as “exit points”.

-Anus
-Lungs
-Urethra
-Superior vena cava
-Various veins and nerve endings

However, the subject’s body will continue to function normally. Test subjects have been recorded as connecting the trachea to a vein, which caused a fatal embolism in the subject, or connecting the esophagus to the lungs, which caused drowning and suffocation as food and drink were ingested. In one notable instance, the spinal cord connected to the urethra, resulting in immediate paralysis and [DATA EXPUNGED]. Subject terminated on the spot.

If reacted to quickly, victims of SCP-XXXX can be rescued through emergency “rearrangement surgery” by organizing the proper “start points” to the proper “exit points”. However, such surgery is incredibly difficult and is not recommended. A more efficient way is to attach the subject to various machines simulating the functions of the “starting points” and “exit points”, such as a dialysis machine and an IV drip. Due to the extreme pain generally reported by subjects undergoing these effects, all testing with SCP-XXXX must be cleared with the Foundation Ethics Committee. Further testing into the distribution of “starting points” and “exit points” is planned for the future.

Addendum: On ██/██/██, Researcher S██████, a pregnant researcher who was experimenting on SCP-XXXX, accidentally rested her hand on it for an extended period of time. However, as no anomalous properties manifested within several hours, it was initially believed that Researcher S██████ had simply not been in contact with it long enough for anomalies to manifest. Upon waking the next day, Researcher S██████ began complaining of extreme stomach pains and anal discharge, and was rushed to a hospital. After a diagnostic X-ray, it was discovered that the umbilical cord had connected to the anus, depriving the fetus of amniotic fluid and effectively starving it to death. Foundation personnel implanted within the hospital administered Class-A amnesiacs to all medical staff involved, and Researcher S██████ was successfully returned to service after several weeks of paid leave.

We still have no idea how many start and exit points exist. This just goes to show you people exactly how dangerous this object is. If you have worked with it recently, never assume it has not affected you.
