Barber's Obsession

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe/Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a waterproof, metallic box measuring sixteen (16) centimeters in length, five (5) centimeters in width, and two (2) centimeters in height and kept in a room five (5) meters by five (5) meters by five (5) meters. All personnel must be clean shaven when observing SCP-XXXX. Personnel with facial hair must keep at least 10 meters away from the object.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a straight razor manufactured by the Wade & Butcher Company of Sheffield, England in the late 1800’s. The handle is made of black ebony and the blade is made of carbon steel, common to most straight razors. Sampling tests suggest nothing extraordinary about the object although all attempts to dull the blade have been unsuccessful and it retains it razor sharpness.

The object seems to have a psychological effect on human males with visible facial hair. When within five (5) meters of SCP-XXXX, those with facial hair begin to experience a substantial irritation on their face. The feeling gives the victim the intense desire to shave it off. Although the victim may shave with a standard razor, they still feel that they have facial hair and become obsessed with getting a satisfactory shave. The subject is then drawn to use SCP-XXXX. However when in possession of the object, the subject will proceed to shave whether proper preparations have occurred or not. The subject will enter a trance-like state and continue to “shave” until layers of flesh are taken off which ultimately leads to the subject’s death.

SCP-XXXX was found in ███████, England after the owner was found in his bathroom. It seemed as if his [DATA EXPUNGED]. He was still alive and rushed to the hospital but died several hours later.

Addendum XXXX-1: An unauthorized test shows that the object’s effects only occur in human males. The test was conducted when Dr. ███ and Dr. █████ placed SCP-1174 in a hallway Dr. Bright passed through. Though informative, both doctors were reprimanded and sent to separate sites.

Addendum XXXX-2: Tests show that the experience is different for different subjects and different reactions occur. Some subjects feel a tingling and others feel as if bugs are in their facial hair. Never the less, no cure has been found for the condition and all exposures still end in deaths.
