An instance of SCP-XXX-1 prior to containment. |
---|
Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be contained in an airtight, 5m x 5m holding chamber. Subject is to be provided with one (1) live goat per week to provided its nutritional requirements. Under no circumstances are personnel to enter the chamber unless SCP-XXX has eaten in the last 24 hours.
Description: SCP-XXX is a colonial organism closely resembling a human cadaver, although closer inspection reveals that it is attached to whatever surface it's laying on by dozens of root-like structures. It attracts prey by producing a powerful odor similar to rotting flesh, which draws in scavengers. Although exact appearance varies depending on the individual, most instances resemble a roughly 30-year-old male in moderately good health (aside from being deceased). Despite the strong odor it produces, SCP-XXX does not appear decomposed or damaged in any way. Each individual organism that makes up SCP-XXX serves a unique purpose within the colony; several such organisms are listed below.
Specimen Log 857:
Designation | Further Information |
---|---|
SCP-XXX-1 | When the colony is inactive, SCP-XXX-1 serve as "hands". However, when prey approaches, they detach from the "wrist" and proceed to attack the victim. Each organism possesses five (5) "fingers"; these resemble human fingers, but have retractable, barbed stingers underneath the "nails". These stingers are equipped with a powerful neurotoxin that can kill a human-sized mammal within two (2) minutes of exposure. A set of leech-like jaws are located on the "palm", which help to transport flesh from the prey to the colony. |
SCP-XXX-2 | SCP-XXX-2 resembles a human nose, and produces the scent that SCP-XXX uses to lure in prey. In an emergency, it can detach from the main colony and flee to safety on a set of insectlike legs. |
SCP-XXX-3 | SCP-XXX-3 resemble teeth, and are normally stored within SCP-XXX's "jaw" (this organism is unclassified as of yet). When SCP-XXX-1 manage to kill a victim, XXX-3 emerge from the "jaw" and transport flesh from the victim to the main colony. A set of small, sharp'clawed legs is concealed within the "root" of each individual to accomplish this, and XXX-3 also appear to possess wings. |
SCP-XXX-4 | SCP-XXX-4 resemble eyes, but do not serve as sensory organs. Instead, they protect their colony's XXX-2. If prey becomes aggressive or resistant to the neurotoxin produced by XXX-1, XXX-4 extend from their sockets on long fibers and assume a defensive posture in front of XXX-2. If the threat comes too close, they will spray a highly caustic acid from their "pupils". This acid produces a powerful burning sensation if it comes into contact with exposed skin. |
SCP-XXX-5 | SCP-XXX-5 are the "hairs" on SCP-XXX's "scalp". They are extremely senstive to changes in air pressure, temperature, and electrical signals; they act as the colony's sensory organs. |
SCP-XXX-6 | SCP-XXX-6 is the colony's last line of defense. If the colony sustains enough damage, XXX-6 will tear itself free and and attack the threat. In appearance, it resembles the lower half of a human torso, essentially the hips and legs. When it detaches, retractable spines emerge from between its "toes". Although slow-moving, it is capable of swinging its "legs" with surprising speed and force. As these "legs" are far more flexible than human legs, they are very effective weapons. XXX-6 will do everything it can to engage the foe in combat; once the reproductive center of the colony (located in the "chest"; organisms are unclassified as of yet) moves far enough away, XXX-6 will instigate a chemical reaction within its body, causing it to violently explode. This, obviously, is a very effective way of removing the threat. |
NOTE: There are more types of organism within the colony than are mentioned here; however, classifying them as individuals as opposed to organs is difficult. The current estimate of each colony's total number of varients ranges from ten (10) to over five hundred (500).
