A prosthetic joint created by studying SCP-XXX's limb hydraulics |
---|
Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be housed in a 6 x 8 x 8 m room constructed of titanium reinforced steel with 36 inches of blast reinforced concrete. One section of the room will have a privacy curtain with a small air vacuum toilet and standard sink. SCP-XXX will be given any reading material that it desires within reason, along with implementations for writing and typing as it requests. The toilet will be connected to an incinerator and a sample collection tube. One reinforced blast-style airlock will allow access into the room, with no less than 3 CCTV systems monitoring the room. The exterior concrete wall must be checked for impact fractures three times daily, and in the event SCP-XXX attempts to attack the walls, air will be pumped from the room until it is unconscious.
Description: SCP-XXX is a human Caucasian male, approximately 1.82m tall, weighing approximately 148kg. SCP-XXX has the unique feature of metallic, hydraulic pistons that are extruded from his skin, taking the place of most load-bearing joint musculature. The normal human muscles in these areas appear to have been removed, resulting in a somewhat emaciated and atrophied appearance. In all other respects, SCP-XXX appears perfectly normal, in fact resembling a rather large person under the coats it was wearing at the time of retrieval. The replacement of musculature has gone as far as replacing eyelid muscles with extremely small pistons, causing an audible "clack" each time SCP-XXX blinks its eyes.
In addition, SCP-XXX has had extensive re-working of their internal organs, designed around the compression required to power the many hydraulic pistons. Please see [Document XXX-BIO01] for details.
Most of the bones are sheathed in a metallic alloy of known composition: [DATA EXPUNGED]. The method of causing these alloys to bond is unknown, as current processes will not cause them to fuse properly. This metal appears to have a strength of 9.5-10 on the Mohs scale, and a rating of approximately HRC 84-85 on the Rockwell scale, with an apparent melting point of 3,422 degrees C (matching that of elemental Tungsten). This metal also forms the joint basis for each attachment point of the pistons and transfers joint stress along the bone sheathing, preventing heavy loads from cracking the bones. In addition, the fists, elbows, knees, and tops of feet also have thick metallic plating, lending credence to the theory SCP-XXX was being designed as an autonomous combat unit.

A reconstruction of the hydraulic heart, now utilized in Foundation ███-████ ███████ |
---|
SCP-XXX is under continual levels of pain whenever he moves due to stress along the skin where the pistons connect to the metallic plating. Painkillers are to be dispensed as requested, and low-level narcotics are approved for usage during testing if required. SCP-XXX has been shown to have a short temper and has been known to attack and destroy objects in the general vicinity if not promptly given painkillers. It has yet to directly lash out at personnel, but has often injured them when it goes on a rampage. Asphyxiation has been shown as the best method of subduing SCP-XXX if this occurs and painkillers cannot be administered or it does not react immediately to the offer of them.
Addendum XXX-01: SCP-XXX was discovered after reports of a deformed man wearing a trenchcoat and no shoes smashing the walls of a pharmacy in ███████, Alaska. Local police failed to apprehend the man, and SCP Agents were mobilized when video analysis showed him punching through solid brick walls and the pistons above his eyelids. He was initially found to be severely dehydrated and delirious, yet cooperated with the Foundation once he was sedated. He has agreed to work with the Foundation on the condition that he is given painkillers at his request and allowed to continue his stated passion, which is reading and writing. To date, he has authored 46 romance novels and 12 Sci-Fi series, all of exceptional depth and substance. Publishing them as a revenue source has been taken into consideration.
Addendum XXX-02: Priority has been given towards reverse engineering the hydraulic systems for use in Foundation projects. SCP-XXX has been wary but is willing to accommodate testing requests. Remember that SCP-XXX is prone to anger if he suffers any pain, so research procedures must be modified accordingly to take this into effect.
O5-██ Note: We have already marked 5 patents based on research conducted on this SCP. I want to impress upon you the importance of keeping him happy and working with us.
Document BIO-01
Preliminary analysis by Dr. ████
The changes to the internal structure of SCP-XXX are quite significant. First, blood has been changed to a more robust fluid, eliminating red blood cells but allowing the saturation of oxygen and natural transportation across cell membranes. White blood cells are more robust, with a smaller count yet a seemingly more toxic nature - cultivated cells have been shown to produce [DATA EXPUNGED]harvesting. The blood and cells have been shown to come from a fungi of the family ██████ ████████████, which has replaced the bone marrow. The heart is a five-chambered pump pushing fluid with Archimedean screws (which spin through an unknown mechanism that radiates low levels of gamma) that also provides pressure for the hydraulics, but requires a ramp-up time to provide maximal pressure. It does this while maintaining a constant flow of blood to the circulatory system. The lungs have been replaced with a single lung located on the right side of the body. It is constructed of an advanced polymer that allows efficient exchange of oxygen while ignoring other gaseous particles, allowing SCP-XXX to breathe in almost any atmosphere that contains at least 15% oxygen. Inhalation and exhalation are controlled by 24 small pistons attached to bones throughout the rib area. The digestive system has remained intact, with the exception of the bladder and reproductive organs, which have been [DATA REDACTED].
SCP-XXX functions at a much cooler temperature than a normal human body, at approximately 76 degrees F. This has shown a remarkable effect in the metabolism and production of [DATA EXPUNGED] and reversible ATP energy conversion. Load effect of the pistons is nonstandard, with the pressure liquid actually seeming slightly compressible, allowing for greater shock reaction than a standard hydraulic piston can provide.
Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Samples of SCP-XXX must be stored in substances that have zero carbon value, such as solid silicate glass tubes, or metallic containers with no carbon content. All storage items must be hermetically sealed and airtight, stored in a containment area that maintains a positive pressure of at least 2 kPa over the internal pressure vessels. Infected samples should be quarantined in a special observation room coated with pure Titanium and lead-glass windows. All joints with the wall must be sealed with either pure silicate compound or a non-carbon based glue.

An enlarged image of SCP-XXX consuming carbon atoms |
---|
All testing must be done by researchers wearing non-carbon bearing Hazmat suits and non-carbon containing utensils. All test materials must be sanitized by submersion in mercury for at least six (6) hours, followed by a rinsing with liquid nitrogen. Any contaminated personnel or materials must be immediately moved to containment rooms C-1 through C-4 and quarantined until expiration or until room is flushed with mercury vapor for at least eighteen (18) hours.
Description: SCP-XXX is a heavily mutated form of Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The basic form of the bacterium when viewed under a microscope is of a non-standard globule, which is unaffected by gram coloration staining. The bacterium is quite larger than the parent form, about triple the size of a normal organism. The bacterium moves along solid objects by "climbing" between molecules, utilizing constituent molecules and electromagnetic force to drag it along. Pathogen is transmitted by contact through any infected item, which can include molecules such as dust that may be present in air. The organism itself shows signs of extensive synthetic manipulation, such as removal of extraneous DNA sets and junk sequences.
SCP-XXX was initially discovered in ███████, ███████ near an abandoned research facility. The roof had caved in due to the results of a recent hurricane, and urban explorers had recently checked into a local hospital, complaining of a burning sensation on their arms and fingers, along with flaking skin. Dr. ███████, the attending physician, noted a pattern and contacted the CDC after learning where the explorers had been. Routine Foundation monitoring of CDC traffic alerted Command to this particular problem, which sent Agents ███████ and ████ to investigate. They quickly determined that this was an SCP level threat, and called for a backup team. Infected subjects were secured and transported to Site-██. Both Agents and the recovery team were infected, but the transport vehicles were not, owing to the non-carbon nature of the isolation modules. However, the Hospital was infected, necessitating [DATA EXPUNGED]. Cover story involved a unknown strain of malaria released by the hurricane and the need for containment via [DATA EXPUNGED]. Area has been validated as uncontaminated and free for re-development.
The organism has an attraction to all forms of carbon, both bonded in molecular form or atomic. As life on earth is a carbon-based organic system, this bacterium could be extremely hazardous to the continuation of life if it was allowed unchecked growth. SCP-XXX will excise carbon atoms from their constituent molecules utilizing a not yet understood process which releases little to no energy from the separation of the bonds. Once the carbon has been excised, it will then split the carbon at the atomic level into Beryllium and Helium, releasing the Helium as a gas. If this occurs inside of an organic life form, this can lead to a quick and painful death from a Helium embolism. The organism seems to feed off of the level of energy that comes from the split of this atom - it is unknown why carbon is the target, but is assumed to be because of the specific energy level produced by the split of carbon. In addition, the produced beryllium has been shown to be an effective base for reproduction of the bacterium.
In organic beings, infection by the parasite has been terminal. The only known solution is to immerse or subject the bacterium to mercury, as antibiotics are disassembled for their constituent carbon parts contained within. However, the immersion in mercury also kills organic subjects. The only other known solution is to starve the bacterium, although this has proven to be effective in only 5% of all cases and not possible in the case of organic lifeforms.
Upon exposure to a good source of carbon, the organism begins to multiply, doubling every 4 minutes. A 1mg sample of the bacterium can completely destroy an average-sized human male of 185 pounds in approximately 24 minutes, and a 10 pound block of carbon in approximately 44 minutes. Higher densities of carbon slow the rate of consumption but tend to increase the rate of growth. Carbon is consumed from the outsite-inwards, with beryllium flaking off and helium escaping from crevices in the object.

Addendum O5-█: Reclassification to Keter approved 09-04-20██ upon request of Dr. ████ due to lack of extermination methods available.
Addendum Testlog-01-05:
Subject: 1-10 pound block of solid carbon
Exposure: 1 mg SCP-XXX placed on top of carbon block
Results: No noticeable effects until 7 minutes, 24 seconds, when a shiny metal was seen to start flaking from the top. This proceeded rapidly to the sides, at which point atmospheric sensors noted the helium concentration in the containment unit began to rise. At T+32 minutes, the block was 1/4 of the beginning size, with notably flakes of a shiny metal in piles around it. At 43 minutes and 55 seconds, the carbon block was completely consumed. Later analysis showed the bacterium to have situated itself on the flakes of metal, which were later identified as elemental beryllium.
Subject: 1 White Laboratory Mouse
Exposure: 1 mg SCP-XXX placed on titanium plate, mouse made to walk over plate
Results: In approximately 32 seconds, mouse began to squeal in pain. 15 seconds later, all 4 legs were seen to snap at the second joint as SCP-XXX converted bone structure and cartilage. The coat of the subject changed color rapidly to a dull grey as SCP-XXX consumed carbon in the hair and skin and converted it to external beryllium. The creature expired at 1 minute and 38 seconds from destruction of internal organs. Remains had a grey metallic sheen but still had the general form of a white mouse.
Subject: 1 block of mahogany wood, 20 pounds
Exposure: Mist of 3 mg SCP-XXX mixed with 1L pure water, sprayed once across the surface
Results: Initial infection was slow, with signs showing at 14 minutes. Block began to flake, but then proceeded to spread rapidly down the sides of the block of wood. Block was reduced to half size in 17 minutes, and completely consumed leaving behind only constituent components and a high concentration of elemental beryllium, with SCP-XXX firmly anchored to the flakes.
Dr. ████'s note: The flakes appear extremely fine and light - I'd imagine with any sort of small breeze that they could become airborn. Could this be a potential infection vector designed into these?
Subject: 1 D-class subject slated for termination
Exposure: Mist of 5 mg SCP-XXX mixed with 1L pure water, sprayed in the face
Results: Subject began to complain of a burning sensation after 12 seconds. After 45 seconds, metallic sheen appeared on the subject's face, and blood began to seep from the pores. Subject complained of an intense burning sensation, which halted abruptly, presumably due to death of nervous tissue underlying the skin. Metal began to flake off the face of the subject, who complained of increasing burning pain again at 3 minutes of exposure. At this point, bone structure began to show, and the subject appeared to become unconscious. Subject was terminated at 5 minutes as cerebral fluid began to seep through holes in the skull. It should be noted that where flakes landed on the body of the subject, there was also indication of a growing infection.
Dr. ████'s note: I don't think we need to make any more live subject tests. Let's focus on finding a way to stop this short of mercury immersion.
Critique:
Verbosity needs work
Sentences too long in some situations
combine last two paragraphs and shorten
effects on organic tissue shorten
sanitization method
Necessity of logs - I think at least one, or perhaps initial site results
Is this even keter?
EDIT NOTES:
Change dura matter to something clearer
Look for a better image - probably smaller resolution, if in doubt, drawing/molecule of benzene
TODO:
Note about proper testing and containment procedures
Add in final warning from O5-X

Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the lack of containment capability presently, and the requirement for activation and knowledge to use this item, no special containment procedures are needed for this object. It is to be kept in a locked drawer in special storage unit 7, of which the site administrator, cleared researchers, and MTF team leads will have access. If location is changed for any reason, it must be located within 10m of a Level-3 or greater cleared researcher that has had prior military service time. Security personnel should check the console outside the containment site every 2 hours to insure that SCP-XXX has not undergone a movement event. In case a movement event occurs, all personnel of military background must examine their personal belongings until SCP-XXX is located and returned to containment.
All personnel with military experience, either active, retired, or separated, should maintain a distance of at least 15m from containment site. Anyone with specific Naval Service should stay more than 30m away. If they approach any closer for any reason, they should notify security to perform an immediate containment check. If containment shows as being broken, they must check their personal belongings for SCP-XXX and return it to containment immediately. Requests for use in testing can be approved directly through either one for any Level-2 or greater cleared personnel. Any MTF usage takes priority for any requests with properly tested and trained personnel if available.
Description: In it's resting state, SCP-XXX is an Admiral Aide-de-Camp aiguillette, in good condition. It is specifically linked to a 4-star Admiral, having 4 golden-colored cords bundled together with blue threading throughout. Most notably, this resembles the type worn by Flag staff in the United States Navy. It has a single fastening pin with a lock underneath the upper portion of the ropes, where it would fasten to a uniform.
SCP-XXX fits upon the shoulder of an individual, looped around their arm in standard uniform location. When a person closes the clasp, they immediately fall unconscious. The subject is for all intents comatose for 10 minutes, unable to be roused by any means. After 10 minutes, the subject awakens with knowledge of the operation of SCP-XXX, along with intimate knowledge of military tactics dating up to current conventional doctrine. This knowledge seem based around current conventional technology as owned by the United States.
When the subject concentrates upon SCP-XXX, the subject will report a calming feeling and a warmth in their upper body, their vision will slowly black out, and an image will form in their mind of an overhead view centered directly upon them. As they continue to concentrate, that view can seem to move upwards or downwards at their will. Current tests have shown that the image seems to have an upper limit of 45,000km, just past geosynchronous orbit. If the subject moves, the viewing location moves with them to maintain a position directly above them. The lowest level that the vision can be brought to apparently seems to be 10 meters above the current subject.
If the subject is holding a blank piece of cellulose-based (wood pulp) paper, a detailed image of what they are presently viewing will start to form on the paper. At first there will be general terrain features, and then the image will gradually grow more detailed, until it resembles an extremely high resolution photograph. This function has been shown to only work on substances that can be drawn upon with normal pencils or pens, or even blank photographic paper. The image produced is permanent. Usage of non-blank paper, non-cellulose based paper, synthetic paper, small white board, chalkboard, computer monitor, or "etch-a-sketch" brand children's toys have produced no image. Test subjects have reported a growing headache that subsided immediately if they held these objects while viewing, culminating in a nearly debilitating migraine headache centered at the back of the neck.
Usage of SCP-XXX has shown to have a degenerative effect over time on the optic nerve of the subject. In addition, repeated usage has shown to be somewhat addictive, as the integration of the object with the subject releases large amounts of endorphins in the upper extremities.
SCP-XXX has a chance to "activate" when any present or former member of any Armed Service comes into a distance of approximately 15m. Those that have service in any Naval component have been shown to "activate" it at approximately 30m. A movement or activation event causes the item to disappear from it's current containment to reappear in a pocket or belongings of the member if they are within 250 meters.
At the time, it does not appear to discriminate on what country the servicemember was active in.

Re: Document/Item classification scheme proposal
The purpose of Foundation categories is to provide a quick identification method of knowing what level a document is releasable not only to the Foundation, but also to other agencies (to include tear lines) and to a much lesser degree, any general population or non-classified agency (such as FEMA or the EPA).
The Foundation as an agency has a much less need for need-to-know categorization, but does need to segment certain areas and certain projects due to their ability to spread rapidly, such as certain memetic hazards. While this means there is less of a need for compartmentalization, there is still a need for separation that will utilize a single trigraph qualifier to indicate it is a read-in program.
PLEASE NOTE: This document is not designed to supercede general Foundation regulations found at http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/security-clearance-levels - it is an attempt to provide a more robust and secure method of labeling documents and items.
The general format of a foundation classification marking should be:
MINIMUM LEVEL / [OPT]HAZARD CATEGORY // [OPT]HAZARD BASIS/1/2/3 // [OPT]RELEASE CATEGORY/1/2/3 //
(Note the actual formatting has no spaces between separation slashes and breaks)
Base Category levels:
The analogue for these is the American system of UNCLASSIFIED, CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET and TOP SECRET. Foundation versions relate to the classification of the individual employee, and will utilize the already in-place house security investigations to grant general clearance.
Level 0: OPEN
Level 1: SECURE
Level 2: PROTECTED
Level 3: RESEARCH
Level 4: SPECIAL
Level 5: OVERSEER
Hazard categories. These are intended to provide an optional indication of the level of the SCP item discussed within the document, or on the item itself. These are in trigraph form, and can be used as an access qualifier. These are mutually exclusive from use with the OPEN category (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SFE!).
Pertaining to safe categories – SAF
Pertaining to Euclid – ECD
Pertaining to Keter – KTR
Hazard basis. This is based on Foundation hazard type series which can be referenced in document http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/warning-labels . These trigraph classifications are intended more to categorize the issue at hand.

Release category. The release category is usable from OPEN to PROTECTED, and is designed to allow sensitive material to be released to an agency outside the Foundation. Release approval must go through a sanitization check initiated through Site security and passed upwards for final approval. This release request takes between 6-8 hours for final approval up and down the chain. Release of higher level classifications is not permitted and requires document sanitization that will be regulated by the Clearance office. This takes the form of:
REL TO [AGENCY CODE]
EX: REL TO USNSA (releasable to the US National Security Agency)
Please note due to reciprocal agreements, if an agency has a valid code, it has a complete obfuscation trail of the releaser in place, so that the NSA might see that information as coming from the FBI or even the White House Security Agency, depending on the subject and the currently determined source as a responsibility of the Overseer Security department.
Examples:
SPECIAL/ECD // GLW/DLI // REL TO USNSA/AUS/SAS/SNZ //
OVERSEER/KTR // BIO/SVN //
OPEN/SFE // REL TO ISAF/NATO
PROTECTED // BIO //
Please note there is NO declassification marker required for Foundation documents. Requests for declassification will come only through the Overseer Security department.
Out of character explanation:
The Foundation deals with things that are quite bizarre, much more complex than standard classified documents. Whereas the current world might be dealing with the intricacies of diplomacy, high-level espionage, or military movements, the SCP Foundation has to deal with all those, but in a much more secretive environment. If you look at how things work based on the articles, then the whole Foundation is like it’s own little government functioning in a very specific way, with little or no concern as to most of the aforementioned items. Of course, there is a general need for diplomacy, and there is definitely military activity. The very nature of the Foundation lends itself to espionage.
Considering all this, I thought it might be interesting to make a simple classification scheme for documents, especially for active-duty style stuff. It is designed not to be too complex, but to resemble current systems in place. Since the SCP Foundation does not have as much of a need for intelligence compartmentalization due to size and operations, in addition to fundamentally being world spanning and beholden to no single nation, much of the compartmentalization system that makes current classification schemes complex and irritating can be stripped out. If we look at it, the most important things are deciding what levels of characters can access the data, and what the data pertains to. The simplistic nature would make for ease of routing on foundation systems too, and maintain the very low level of compartmentalization. Having a release system allows that document to possibly feed into other governments, say for instance something is ALMOST classed as an SCP, but determined not to warrant containment, or found to be something easily explained (say a certain item of a cult movement having no power, but the cult a danger so the authorities are tipped off).
Whether or not people want to use it, it’s still an interesting experiment. Considering the data about the site out there, and the “non-canon” nature of everything, I think it could add some nice flavor to documents for whoever wants to use it.

Unit 7/18 was on a reconnaissance mission outside of [REDACTED]. It was a red zone, in other words it was a known area of insurgent activity. As they crossed a shallow trail below the sharp pinnacle of a ridge, they came under fire from an unknown unit slightly below them, 200 yards away. They were attacked with small arms fire and light machine gun units, in addition to coordinated RPG strikes in their area.
Due to the rocky nature and what is generally agreed upon as a healthy deal of luck, there was enough cover for them to take position and fire back. Due to the almost starless nature of the night and the lack of the moon, coupled with lack of NVG units for most of the team, they were very uncoordinated about where the fire was coming from.
Organic intelligence unit called for overhead from standby Reaper drone and proceeded to organize return fire with the OIC of the unit. Intelligence asset prepared to mark targets for MQ-9 strike packages.
The Captain in charge of the unit prepared to call in standby artillery strikes on the enemy targets. He called fire for effect, but he was using the wrong grid location, with a target that would have placed the incoming rounds dangerously close to the top of the ridge they were right below. Their field intelligence officer seized the radio and proceeded to berate the captain and correct the grid.
The fire mission struck the enemy group, causing them to scatter and retreat back over the small ridge they were using for cover. They managed to retrieve one of their KIA, but could not reach the last one due to him tumbling down the side of the ridge they were firing over. Reaper-26 system prepared to fire on their egress vehicles but suffered a catastrophic failure of the targeting systems shortly before actualization.
Enemy vehicles were not located due to casualties within the recon unit, who egressed red zone without incident.
