Manufacturer image of journal similar to SCP-XXX

Item #: SCP-XXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be kept in a locked safety deposit box on Site-19, with normal protection in place. SCP-XXX is to be kept in in the top-right drawer of Dr. █████'s on-site office when not in use or testing. No other special containment procedures are required, though XXX's unique properties make it inadvisable to handle it casually.

Description: SCP-XXX appears to be a standard, lash-close leather journal of European make. It appears to be hand-made, and standard chemical analysis reveals it to be no different in composition than other similar items. There are 120 pages when the journal is "fresh" (see below). An inscription on the front of the first page reads "Hindsight's 20/20, ain't it? -T.C.", signed to the reader, either their first name, or their preferred moniker, if they have one. The outer cover has begun to show some light wear from usage, and repairs may be necessary in the future to keep the object intact.

SCP-XXX was purchased at a yard sale by Agent █████ prior to her joining the Foundation, its properties dismissed as coincidence or unobserved. Later investigation revealed that the original owner of XXX, one ███ █████, sold the object after discovering some of its unique properties, in an attempt to relieve himself of what he believed to be a 'cursed' or 'bewitched' item. (See Interview XXX-A) Mr. ███████ was given a Class C Amnesiac and put under bi-weekly surveillance, to determine if XXX had any sort of long-term effects.

Under casual scrutiny, XXX appears to be completely ordinary, excepting the inscription's 'knowledge' of the reader's name. It can be used like a normal object of its type, exhibiting no unusual qualities, and the pages can be removed without difficulty, though once removed, they cease to exhibit the qualities present in XXX. The most obvious of these is that, whenever SCP-XXX is handled and opened by an individual other than the one mentioned in the inscription, (hereby referred to as the 'attuned' individual) the inscription will change, and, more noticeably, the contents of XXX will 'reset'. Inside will be 120 blank pages, regardless of how many were previously damaged or removed, or their contents beforehand.

Addendum XXX-1: Dr. █████ requested use of SCP-XXX for personal reasons, as well as to test if the effects of the journal could be duplicated. Approval was granted by O5-█ and basic testing has begun. (See Test Log XXX)
