Item #: SCP-XXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:Item SCP-XXX is to be kept in a reinforced concrete room of standard size, it is to be contained in a locked bulletproof glass box on a central dais. The object is to be removed for research only with the supervision of no less than two (2) Level 3 personnel. Under no circumstances may any text, either written or electronic, be allowed into the containment room with the object.

As item SCP-XXX appears to be completely inert when not worn by a sentient subject, no further special precautions need be taken.

Description:SCP-XXX appears as a pair of late 19th century reading glasses. The frame appears to be composed of ordinary iron and is extensively rusted. The lenses vary in power, apparently changing to conform to the current wearer’s vision. All test subjects wearing the object have reorted perfect vision, regardless of variances in initial vision. The lenses have proven impossible to scratch and also appear to be self-cleaning, always staying free of dirt.

These glasses have the unusual property of being able to bring into existence objects and creatures which the wearer reads about, however these abilities have several limitations (see document SCPXXX-xf3).

The object was discovered in the home of ████████ █████ on 06/06/19██, after police were alerted to sounds of a struggle by neighbours. Police reported that the house was apparently completely secured, with no signs of forced entry and nothing stolen. The body was discovered severely mutilated alone in a reading room of the house. A timely investigation and intervention by Dr█████████ resulted in the seizure of the glasses.

Addendum #1:Following the events detailed in document SCPXXX-5cr, security procedures have been revised.

Addendum #2: It is suggested that the object be re-classified as keter class.

Document SCPXXX-xf3: Experimental Log

Experiment Details: Class-D subject told to read aloud a descriptive passage abour Dr. █████’s horse.
Results: Halfway through the passage, the horse appeared exactly as described up to this point in the text, the subject was startled by this and ceased reading the passage, at which time the horse vanished.

Experiment Details: New class-D subject told to read silently a descriptive passage abour Dr. █████’s horse.
Results: Exactly as above.

Experiment Details: New class-D subject told to read a descriptive passage abour Dr. █████’s horse no matter what, on pain of death.
Results: The horse appeared much sooner than in previous experiments, but only as a very vague horse-like shape, as the subject continued to read, the horse changed to reflect additional details from the passage.

Experiment Details: Same as above, however the subject was told to continue thinking of the horse for as long as possible after the end of the passage.
Results: Same as above, however the horse persisted in the same form for thirty-two (32) minutes at which point the subject reported an inability to concentrate on the thought of the horse, which then faded into non-existence.

Experiment Details: A class-D subject was instructed to write a detailed description of an imagined object (the subject chose a pair of binoculars) and then read the passage while wearing the glasses.
Experimental Results: No effect.

Experiment Details: A class-D subject was instructed to read a detailed description of an imagined object (a bicycle pump) written by Dr. ████ and keep thinking of it after he was finished reading.
Results: The bicycle pump appeared exactly as described, then faded once the subject reported he was unable to keep thinking of it after twenty-six (26) minutes.

Experiment Details: A class-D subject was instructed to read a description of an imagined zero-point energy device written by Dr. █████ and keep thinking of it after he was finished reading.
Results: No effect.

Experiment Details: A class-D subject was instructed to read a detailed description of the current President of the United States.
Results: No effect.

Experiment Details: A class-D subject was instructed to read a description of SCP-682.
Results: No effect.

Experiment Details: A class-D subject was instructed to read a description of SCP-076.
Results: No effect.

Experiment Details: A class-D subject was instructed to read a description from a child’s book of a puma characterised as intelligent and friendly toward humans.
Results: On appearance, the puma acted confused, then noticed the class-D subject and attacked him, severing his jugular vein and killing him, upon which the puma disappeared.

From these results we can deduce several properties of the object:
• Summoned objects become fully real and solid constructs.
• Summoned objects remain real as long as the wearer of the glasses is able to concentrate on a mental image of the object in question.
• The only limit on this length of time appears to be the ability of the user to form and keep a mental image.
• The glasses appear to be unable to summon ‘impossible’ objects such as other SCP objects.
• Summoned creatures will behave as comes naturally to their species and cannot be made to change this behaviour via description.
• Real creatures and objects can only be summoned if they are generic and not unique.

Further research may be required. For now, all involved class-D personnel are to be killed.
Dr. █████

Document SCPXXX-5cr Object Misuse Report

It appears that Dr. █████, after losing his glasses, began to use object SCP-XXX as a replacement. It is estimated that this had gone on for several months. During this period, his peers noted that he began to read fiction books recreationally much more than he had before, especially fantasy books. Also noted was an increasingly dark and moody temperament.

On ██/██/20██, while in the facility canteen, Dr. █████, still wearing the glasses, began behaving erratically, breaking several plates and attacking a co-worker, at one point screaming “No, don’t make me think it”.

At this point, an unknown creature, possibly non-terrestrial appeared and immediately dismembered Dr. █████ before disappearing.

Based on this incident, it appears that the object may be sentient and could have the ability to exert a degree of control over what is summoned.

Further experimentation may be necessary, until such time, suggest stepping up of security precautions to ensure no further unauthorized use.
