Description:
SCP-XXXX is a small wooden decorative box (15.2cmX5.1cmX7.6cm) dating from the late 800's CE sharing multiple design similarities to several Southern French workshops. It's believed the box originates from an obscure excommunicated monastic cult who believed in using satanic rituals to intimidate the local population into worshipping Christianity.
The box is a simple leather strap hinged container with a hooked latch, it is engraved on five sides with scenes of a forest, there are nine engravings of humans in various states of decomposition and fever, further, there are one hundred and two engravings of flies, these illustrations are finely detailed beyond the capability of the tools used at the time.
The top face has, at its centre, the illustration of a small plinth in the middle of a glade, beneath it is written: “eius unicum donum.” (“His only gift.”)
The inside of the box is lined with black felt, much like the rest of the box it has been kept in perfect condition despite of the age and relative frailty of the materials.
Once opened SCP-XXXX begins to emit a smell likened to animal decomposition, this has caused immediate nausea and vomiting in 100% of cases thus far, subjects then begin a delirious confession of their perceived guilt, universally claiming that they; “don't want it any more,” or variations thereof.
Within five minutes of exposure subjects come down with the symptoms of a haemorrhagic fever of the bunyaviridae family and within approximately thirty minutes symptoms of necrotizing fasciitis (standard treatments of either illnesses have proven innefectual in slowing or preventing the spread of the disease.)
The inflamed areas of skin and excretions caused by these symptoms immediately begin the spontaneous generation of fly larvae (at an average of .25 grams of human flesh to every one larvae) over a period of 8-10 hours.
