SCP-XXX appears to be a standard freezer key.

Item #: SCP-XXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be kept in Sector-██, in a secure 10x10m containment cell containing a refrigeration unit that has been emptied of all its interior shelves, for testing purposes. It must be stored in a small lock-box, placed on a table on the opposite side of the room from the refrigeration unit. Researchers wishing to perform tests with SCP-XXX must get permission from Level 3 staff or higher.

Description: SCP-XXX appears to be a small key designed to provide access to a commercial-grade upright freezer. Physically, it shows no anomalous properties. However, when any type of refrigeration unit is approached and opened while SCP-XXX is carried on the subject’s person, the rear-interior wall of the refrigeration unit will be replaced with an industrial-grade metal door, opened away from the subject and leading out into a dimly-lit hallway. This phenomenon is not perceivable from the outside of the refrigeration unit, and is believed to be fourth-dimensional in nature.

This hallway, after its initial exploration by Class D personnel, was determined to be over 800m in length, with many other connected passages. The interior temperature was determined to be approximately -11°C. It was later designated SCP-XXX-1.

SCP-XXX-1 is lined on both sides with metal doors identical to the one used to enter from the refrigeration unit. When SCP-XXX is inserted into the lock on one of the doors and turned counter-clockwise, the door may be opened. After extensive testing, it has been determined that each door leads to the inside of another refrigeration unit. Various doors within SCP-XXX-1 have been observed to lead to the insides of refrigerators, upright freezers, mini-fridges, and meat lockers. It is theorized that SCP-XXX-1 contains a door leading to every refrigeration unit currently in existence. The size of the door within SCP-XXX-1 always reflects the size of the refrigeration unit being entered, ranging from 0.6m tall for mini-fridges to a 5x2m sliding panel for meat lockers.

Attempts to trace the origin of SCP-XXX have been met with failure. After its initial discovery and seizure in 198█ from █████ ███████, a man [DATA EXPUNGED], SCP-XXX was relocated to Sector-██. Expeditions into SCP-XXX-1 with the intent of cataloging the organization of the metal doors in relation to the associated refrigeration units’ geographic locations are underway. As this network of passages could prove highly useful to the Foundation for the purposes of facility evacuation and the deployment of mobile task forces, a formal request from Dr. █████ for permission to utilize SCP-XXX-1 for these purposes has been issued to Overwatch Command, pending approval.
