Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-xxx is to remain in a locked 5m x 5m x 5m soundproofed room with two security cameras to allow observation from a further soundproofed control room. A level 3 security clearance is required to enter the enclosure, except for those “performing” which may have level 1 clearance. Any personnel entering during a test must wear soundproof headphones with audio playing to prevent hearing any sound from SCP-xxx.
D-class personnel are no longer to be used in testing due to the dangers of an uncooperative individual, and the difficulty of interfering with a test gone wrong until SCP-xxx‘s effects have occurred (see addendum xxx-B). “Attendants” should still be comprised of D-class due to the somewhat unpredictable nature of its effects. Lyrics of requested songs are to be screened in advance by overseeing personnel.
Description: SCP-xxx appears to be a karaoke machine, with the words “XTREME SING” in a stylistic logo on the front. It is completely hollow, containing no electronics or any other power source. The machine is constantly "on" with the screen brightly lit and flashing. On the screen is a prompt to select a song, which is done by speaking the name of the desired song into the microphone. Once spoken, the machine will ask to confirm the choice before activating. There has so far not been a single song that is not known by SCP-xxx, including songs with no lyrics.
Once a song is selected, the “performer” will be put under the effect of SCP-xxx, and will sing to the end of the selected song regardless of their own will. Anyone who hears the performance will also be affected by SCP-xxx. When contacted by personnel not affected by SCP-xxx, “attendants” will ignore any suggestions, as if they can’t hear anything but the performance. If any attempt is made to stop the singer prematurely, SCP-xxx will emit a powerful sound wave which will incapacitate any individual that is not currently affected by SCP-xxx. We have yet to develop soundproof headgear that can block out this sound wave.
Additionally, and of most concern, throughout the song, the performer and attendees will begin to change, both mentally and physically, according to the lyrics of the song. Sometimes this is just to the “mood” of the lyrics, and other times much more specifically. This can be quite dangerous, as was discovered in early testing, SCP-xxx often interprets figurative language literally. The effects on individuals last until approximately 30 minutes after the song has ended, at which point they will revert to their ordinary states, and will have no memory of the event. SCP-xxx has also been shown to bring unknown materials into the world, seemingly out of nowhere. Everything that has been brought into being by way of SCP-xxx has remained in existence indefinitely.
The only thing that will stop the effects of SCP-xxx prematurely is the death of the performer, either by outside cause or by the effects of SCP-xxx itself. Rendering of the performer unconscious or unable to sing by any other means will not stop the effects from occurring.
Addendum-xxx-A: Test Log by Dr. ██████
For each test, one D-class personnel was given a song to select, and four additional D-class were sent in as attendants.
Song: Jimi Hendrix – Purple Haze
Performer: D-15534
Results: Subjects appeared relatively calm, and seemed to be under the influence of a hallucinogenic. Upon immediate testing once the performance ended, all subjects were shown to have traces of an unknown drug in their system, presumably meant to create the exact experience as described in the song. The effects wore off after about 30 minutes, and subjects reported no ill side effects.
Song: Ludwig van Beethoven – Moonlight Sonata 1st Movement
Performer:D-15534
Results: Subjects remained unmoving throughout the song, including the performer. Subjects were rendered mute until SCP-xxx’s effects wore off. This is the presumed effect that any instrumental song will have on subjects.
Song: Queen – Don’t Stop me Now
Performer:D-15534
Results: Due to SCP-xxx‘s previously unknown tendency to take figurative language far too literally, [DATA EXPUNGED], resulting in ██ casualties. SCP-xxx appeared undamaged. Further screening of lyrics is required to locate any potentially highly destructive metaphors and similes.
Addendum-xxx-B
On █/██/██, Dr. ██████ sent in a particularly disruptive D-class to perform "Imagine" by John Lennon. However, the D-class disobeyed orders and instead selected the song “██████████” by The Faceless. Personnel were unable to stop SCP-xxx from carrying out its effects, and subjects began to exhibit [DATA EXPUNGED]. Three subjects escaped, despite [DATA EXPUNGED] resulting in ███ deaths before all remaining threats could be neutralized. Tissue samples have been collected, and are now awaiting further study. D-class are no longer to be used as “performers” to prevent another similar incident.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-xxx is to be kept in a locked container in a room with one guard stationed outside. Access to SCP-xxx is only permitted during testing. SCP-xxx's camera is to be covered when outside of its container, and is only uncovered for testing on D class. All other staff involved in testing are to remain out of the camera's field of vision when exposing subjects to SCP-xxx. During testing, no attempt should be made to move the subject or SCP-xxx in any way. Any staff seen by SCP-xxx's camera are to be restrained and taken to an infirmary to be cared for while they fall into a coma. The foundation is currently researching a way to wake victims of SCP-xxx from the induced coma.
Description: SCP-xxx appears to be a video game system made up of parts of other known systems. It consists of a Playstation Eye camera taped to a Nintendo Wii motion sensor, a Nintendo NES controller with the wire ripped out, and a piece of cardboard with the words "Jump Escape Rescuer" written in pen. It has no wires that allow it to connect to any power source or television, and will simply power up on its own without prior warning approximately every 72 minutes, and will project its video into the nearest electronic device with a screen. Similarly, the controller works with the system without its wire. Despite the camera and motion sensor, the game is controlled solely with the physical controller.
SCP-xxx was recovered from a household in ██████, ██, after a boy in the family was sent to the hospital in a coma, covered in scars. Also recovered from the house the what seems to be the original box SCP-xxx came in. The name on the box reads "Connecter! Yourbody is game! Mind is control!" The broken English continues throughout the packaging, with phrases like "Cant lost with Connector! Ending your controls!", and "Can you save the before?" The included instructions also explain how to play the included game, again by way of broken English. "For playing, let camera look at you, and let control begining!." It was found that to start the game, one must stand in view of SCP-xxx's camera while it is active.
To start the game, one must stand in view of SCP-xxx's camera. Once someone has been seen by the camera, they will be compelled to pick up the controller and start playing the game. While doing so, they will sit completely upright with a blank expression on their face. If they are prevented from doing so by any means, they will fall into a coma that is irreversible by any means other than through SCP-xxx itself (See addendum xxx-a). When SCP-xxx fully activates, the nearest screen will display a title screen reading "Jump Escape Rescuer" in bright colors. The game itself appears to be a clone of the Mario franchise of video games, with the player character traversing a 2 dimensional world from right to left, defeating enemies by jumping on them and collecting items such as coins. However, differences arise in how the character reacts to the world. While the same unrealistic physics apply to the game world, i.e. being able to jump 3 times ones height, the character seems to react to impact and other physical stress like someone from our world would. If the character falls from a great height, he may shatter his legs and continue to crawl through the level. If hit by a fireball he will catch fire and run around in a panic.
These feelings of the game character seem to be shared by the player. If any physical harm comes to the game character, the player will give an appropriate vocal reaction to the pain, although will remain still and not adjust their facial expression. The extent of this connection is alarming, as large injuries the character receives will appear as scars on the player's body, although no deeper tissue damage appears to occur. The vocalizations of players can become quite disturbing, as when the game progresses, the obstacles in the game become increasingly violent, with the 3rd of what appears to be only 3 levels consisting of saw blades, lava pits, meat grinders and other gruesome traps. Particularly when the game character dies, the player's screams become intense, but the character will continue to "re-spawn" regardless, as the game seems to be based on time, and not a finite amount of attempts. If a player does run out of time, the game will freeze, and the message "Not enough. Have your end" appears on screen. SCP-xxx will shut down, and the player will fall into a coma similar to those who are taken away from the game forcefully.
Addendum xxxx-a: Recently, test subject #█ D-15621 managed to finish the 3rd level of the game. The message, "Congratulation! You mind you won! But not all…" appeared on the screen briefly, and SCP-xxx shut off. D-15621 snapped out of his trance and fell unconscious, but not into a coma. As the game was beaten, the most recent living test subject, D-14985, woke from her coma. Both subjects were stable, but had a long recovery process before they could be interviewed. Upon questioning they claimed that he was aware that they were playing the game, but could feel everything the character felt, including multiple deaths. D-15621 was reluctant to speak, but eventually said that through his connection, he believed that his victory is what woke D-14985 from her coma, and that each subsequent victory would wake another victim.
When asked to play the game again to save other D-class and foundation staff who had been caught in SCP-xxx's camera he vehemently refused, stating that the experience was far worse than death, and that he would rather be "terminated", but was told he had no choice. Despite being watched by guards, he managed to snap his own neck on a stool before he could be used for further testing. We will continue testing with other subjects. If any others manage to "win" and save another victim, we will administer amnesiacs and have them try again. We will continue to interview any other victims who awake to find any more possible information about SCP-xxx.
