SCP-1239 unhooked from any equipment prior to testing |
---|
Item #: SCP-1239
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1239 is to be kept at Site 19 in a high value item storage locker. Access to SCP-1239 may be granted with the approval of no less than two Level 4 researchers or the site Administrator.
Description: SCP-1239 is an unlabeled phonograph built inside a teak wood case and designed to play standard 30cm vinyl records. A small hatch on the bottom of the case was found to contain Document A1239. When a record containing spoken or sung vocals is played, the subject of the vocals manifests in an area surrounding the speakers. Increased volume results in a corresponding increase in the area of manifestation. Testing has produced numerous situations ranging from a starry night setting to a medieval fantasy war resulting in the complete destruction of the testing chamber and threatening containment of numerous other SCPs. (see Incident 1239-A). Speakers must be attached to SCP-1239 for the manifestations to occur though the speakers themselves are interchangeable. Any components attached to SCP-1239 through which the speakers operate appear immune to its creations. Instrumental pieces, recordings or re-transmission of the audio produced by SCP-1239 do not result in manifestations. Objects manifested by SCP-1293 may leave the area of manifestation, but will dematerialize upon cessation of play.
Recovery: SCP-1239 was recovered following what survivors called an impromptu "block party". SCP-1239 was found attached to a ██████ brand amplifier which was, in turn, attached to ██████ brand concert speakers and volume turned to maximum. On the turntable was the album ''Anyone for Doomsday'' by artist ''Powerman 5000''. Examination of the scene suggested that the record had played from the beginning and only stopped at the end of the third song when glassification of the neighborhood rendered the electric grid non-functional and the object went unpowered. All survivors were administered Class A amnesiacs and a cover story blaming the destruction on a terrorist attack was disseminated.
Addenda:
All previously untested records must first be reviewed and accepted by Dr. █████. Let's not have a repeat of I-1239-A.
Given the potential for destruction if coupling SCP-1239 with an appropriate recording and transmission hardware, I recommend object class be upgraded to Euclid. -Dr. █████
Upgrade to Euclid denied. Operation and containment are predictable. As long as you don't do anything stupid with it again, there shouldn't be any issues. -O5-██

Any album to be tested with SCP-1239 is to be authorization by Dr. ███████ prior to use.
Description: SCP-1239 is an unlabeled phonograph, built inside a teak wood case and designed to play standard 30cm vinyl records. A small hatch on the bottom of the case was found to contain Document A1239. When a record containing spoken or sung vocals is played, the subjects and/or events described by the vocals manifest in an area surrounding the speakers. Increased volume results in a corresponding increase in the area of manifestation. Testing has produced numerous situations ranging from a clear, night setting, to a medieval-fantasy war which resulted in the complete destruction of the testing chamber and threatened containment of numerous other contained objects (see Incident 1239-A). Speakers must be attached to SCP-1239 for the manifestations to occur, though the speakers themselves are interchangeable and any single given set does not retain anomalous properties once removed from SCP-1239.

On the turntable was the album ''Anyone for Doomsday'' by the group ''Powerman 5000''. Examination of the scene suggested that the record had played from the beginning and only stopped at the end of the third song, at which point the events described caused total glassification of the neighborhood and rendered the electric grid non-functional, causing the object to lose all power. Survivors were administered Class A amnesiacs, and a cover story blaming the destruction on a terrorist attack was disseminated.
Addendum:
In light of Test 1239-13, testing protocols have been restructured; all previously untested albums must be authorized by either the lead researcher involved in the product (currently Dr. ███████) or Site 19 administration; while it was successful in both the full-scale production of a dramatic scene and confirmed that objects manifested by SCP-1239 are able to leave the immediate area of effect without consequence, it also lead to heavy damage of a significant portion of an entire wing of Site 19. In the future, no album featuring depictions of hostile action, large-scale destruction or instances of hazardous effects or environment are to be permitted except in specially secured conditions.
