Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is unmovable and thus contained on site nearby █████████, Virginia, currently designated Site 83. Entrance to the cavern is to be surrounded by 7 feet tall perimeter fences with barbed wire at the top, standard distance of 30 meters from the entrance, with a suitable gate placed in the road leading to the site to allow transfer of personnel and supplies. The gate is to be guarded by armed personnel 24/7. Any civilians approaching Site 83 are to be informed that the area is a US Army base and asked to leave the area immediately. Intruders should be subdued non-lethally, interrogated, and then dealt with as needed.
The entrance to the cavern is to be protected by a concrete structure and a large steel door.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an underground lake located in the cavern under Site 83, as well as the lifeforms that dwell in the lake, designated SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2. The lake is similar to other underground lakes in the Appalachians; however it exerts a telepathic influence on those who view it in person. Those who look directly at the waters of the lake feel an intense compulsion to enter the lake and submerge themselves. Subjects usually die as a result of injuries from SCP-1219-1 or from drowning, unless they are forcibly removed from the lake in time. The source of this effect is unknown, but it seems to only manifest in humans and sapient animals that view the lake directly. Images and videos have no effect. SCP-148 alloy has shown to be effective in blocking this effect. The bottom of SCP-XXXX is covered in bones belonging to numerous species. So far six species have been identified, including deer, bear, raccoon, and human remains.
SCP-XXXX-1 refers to any of the anomalous fish that inhabit SCP-XXXX. The fish usually grow to a length of 125 cm from tail to snout. The creatures are partially silicon-based and partially organic in nature. They are carnivorous and extremely aggressive, attacking prey larger than themselves. The snouts of the fish are sharp enough to slice through flesh, and composed primarily of a granite-like substance which is notably lighter and more pliable than normal granite. Upon observation of a snout sample under an electron microscope, it was discovered that [DATA-EXPUNGED], and possesses a micro-structure structure similar to that of tempered steel. DNA analysis of SCP-XXXX-1 flesh samples have been inconclusive.
The “eyes” of the fish are in fact crystalline orbs similar in composition to black tourmaline gemstones. These, along with an organ located at the base of the fish’s snout, form a system of navigation not unlike radar. The “eyes” act as receptors for echoes of radiation pulses produced in the snout by an organ consisting of a complex mass of muscle, several crystals resembling quartz, and electrocyte cells. The exact principles of how these radiation pulses are produced in the organ is unknown. The scales of the fish are composed of matter similar to that found in the snout.
The fish scrape rock chips and dust off the cavern walls, utilizing their extremely sharp and durable snouts, and then consume said matter roughly every two weeks. This behavior also seems to play a role in maintaining their snout’s sharpness. It is also theorized that some minerals may be absorbed through the waters of the lake, which contains higher than average concentrations of silicates and oxides, as well as a notable concentration of the same unidentified element found in SCP-XXXX-1’s scales and snout.
Scp-XXXX-2 is a large mass of flesh and stone material of the same kind found in SCP-XXXX-1. The mass is roughly 6 meters across at its thickest section. Several tubes like the siphons of squid and octopi extend from the top of SCP-XXXX-2. Other orifices include a large mouth and a birthing chute. It has no means of propulsion and is apparently fused with the walls of the cavern at the bottom of the lake. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will collect a portion of any food they find and feed it to SCP-XXXX-2, which births a new instance of the fish roughly every four weeks. SCP-XXXX-2 is theorized to be the source of the telepathic compulsion effecting individuals observing SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX was first discovered on ██████ █, 2006, after a group of local spelunkers went missing in the area. Local police inspected the cavern at what is now Site 83, as the caving enthusiast had informed their families of their destination. Foundation attention was attracted after all but one of the officers was lost in the investigation. The survivor, Officer ██████ ███████, returned to town severely traumatized. Media coverage of the event was suppressed and witnesses, including most of the population of █████████, were administered Class B amnesiacs.
