SCP-XXXX in its dormant form |

Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Subject is to be kept in a room of approximately 5m x 5m decorated in the fashion of a typical girl's room. Requests made by the subject, either directly or through SCP-XXXX-1, that do not exceed $20 US in retail value and do not connect the subject to the outside world are to be granted. Requests outside these specifications are to be replied to with, "We checked with your mommy, and she said no." Queries as to the health of SCP-XXXX-1, or as to when she will "wake up," are to be replied to with "We are doing our best." Any response to these statements other than meek acceptance, or any behavior from SCP-XXXX-1’s corpse that indicates sentience or independent life is to be reported to the level 3 researcher currently supervising this specimen. Level 2 and higher personnel are permitted to interact with SCP-XXXX while on break, provided it does not leave its containment and all above procedures are maintained. Under no circumstances are SCP-XXXX and SCP-239 to be kept in the same facility. Personnel interacting with SCP-XXXX more than three times in a thirty day period, whether through research or voluntarily, are to submit to a psychological evaluation to ensure no threat from exposure.
Description: SCP-XXXX most commonly appears as a plush otter hand puppet, produced by soft toy manufacturer ██████. No material anomalies found in puppet. SCP-XXXX is commonly found on the hand of SCP-XXXX-1, the corpse of █████ ███████. Corpse shows no signs of decay, despite time elapsed since death. Puppet "speaks" and moves as if host were manipulating it; voice emanates from the puppet although its mouth is incapable of motion. Corpse is that of a █ year old Caucasian female, completely inanimate when not under the influence of subject. Subject’s influence is primarily limited to itself and its host corpse, but has demonstrated limited influence over its environment.
At times, and for reasons not fully understood at this time, SCP-XXXX will manifest as an anthropomorphic otter the size of SCP-XXXX-1. During these periods, it has been known to dance, sing catchy tunes, and coax those present (including SCP-XXXX-1) to join it in playing a variety of games. These periods conclude with SCP-XXXX sinking into a depressive state and sobbing in a curled up ball, begging its host to wake up until regressing to its puppet form. Regression occurs instantaneously if any physical examination is attempted, or if it deems those nearby are acting too "grown-up."
Gleaned from interviews with the subject and the host’s parents: SCP-XXXX-1's home life featured repeated instances of physical and psychological abuse. At unknown time, the sentience behind SCP-XXXX infested her plush toy, and appears to have adopted its physical form and feed psychically upon good will and happy emotions (referred to by SCP-XXXX as “the power of friendship”), with no evident harm to the host or others it interacts with. SCP-XXXX evidently used its powers to provide escapism to its host, exchanging fantasies for sustenance. Following a fall down the stairs of her home, SCP-XXXX-1 is believed to have fallen into a coma and died. It is presumed an unknown quality of SCP-XXXX led her body to continue its daily routine until she came to the attention of the Foundation when one of her teachers noticed her unresponsive behavior and unusual unwillingness to place the puppet in the coatroom. Upon entering containment, SCP-XXXX displayed decreasing energy and willingness to cooperate. Staff interaction in the form of tea parties, playing with dolls, and similar activities (referred to by SCP-XXXX as "magical adventures") led to a return of its initial condition.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Interviewer: Dr. ███████
Foreword: Preliminary interview to confirm SCP-XXXX's sentience, and investigate its perception of SCP-XXXX-1, the Foundation, and its current situation.
<Begin Log,>
Dr. ███████ Hello there. Do you understand where you are?
SCP-XXXX We're in a hospital, right? You're going to make █████ better?
Dr. ███████ It's a sort of hospital, yes. Could you explain what you are?
SCP-XXXX I'm Pitter-Patter, the otter. I don't usually talk around big people, because █████'s mommy and daddy don't like noise, but she's been sleeping for a long time now, ever since she fell, and I'm worried she's sick. She got sick last winter, and she threw up a lot, but this isn't anything like that. She needs to get up, or her mommy and daddy are going to be mad.
Dr. ███████ And how did you meet █████?
SCP-XXXX I saw her looking so sad, because she didn't have any friends, so I wanted to be her friend. She had a pretend friend, so I became her friend for real. We've gone on all sorts of magical adventures together, and we've had so much fun. You'll make her better so we can have more adventures, right?
Dr. ███████ We're doing our best. She's very sick. Do you know what death is?
SCP-XXXX Death is like when █████'s grandma went away to a place called Heaven. Mommy got angry at her because she was crying very loud, and Mommy said for that, █████ couldn't ever go visit her grandma in Heaven because grandma didn't want to see loud little girls. She's been really quiet for a long time, though, and she's been so good. You'll let her go to Heaven and see grandma, won't you? She'd like that.
Dr. ███████ I'll… see what I can do. Excuse me, I need to go now.
SCP-XXXX Thanks for coming to play, Mister Doctor. I hope we can play again soon.

Closing Statement: Subject is willing to cooperate with studies under the impression we are "playing" and "making █████ better." Screw Keter duty. The worst punishment around here should be getting made the guy who has to tell SCP-XXXX that █████ is dead while looking it in the eyes. Rereading that, I’m being entirely too emotional about this case. Submitting myself for voluntary psychological evaluation. -Dr. ███████
