SCP-XXX under infrared viewing. Coloured lengths indicate coated support beams, an additional measure following Incident 23, ██/██/05.

Item #: SCP-XXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be kept in a darkened room, currently Site Romeo-1024 [DETAIL BRIEF JJ-283 ██/██/93. ALL LEVEL-2+ OPERATIVES MUST READ FOR INFORMATION REGARDING RESTRICTED AREAS WHEN WORKING WITH UO MATERIALS]. The containment facility measures 4m (400cm) by 4m (400cm) by 6m (600cm) and contains one (1) steel and polytetrafluoroethylene working table, holding one (1) brass holder, taken with SCP-XXX upon discovery. No light is permitted in the containment facility, although Ultraviolet lamps and infrared-viewing equipment are permitted under strict supervision. Result of failing to comply will be its own punishment, and operatives are advised to stick to regulations.

Description: SCP-XXX comprises of a solid three-sided prism, constructed of an unrecognized substance, although testing at ██████ Facility revealed significant quantities of [DATA EXPUNGED]. Further testing became impossible after SCP-XXX activated following Incident 014, ██/██/98. The object, when exposed to light of the visible spectrum, emits a searing heat and an intensely bright light, the strength of which has caused two fatalities at the ███████ facility. Testing using infrared and ultraviolet light resulted in the device appearing to become hollow and black and increasing rapidly in size. Analysis of the wavelength spectrum of the device suggests that the light given off when exposed to a visible wavelength of light may originate from outside the current spectrum; a theory suggested by Professor. ██████████████ [SEE DETAIL BRIEF 14: OPERATIVES] ponders that the light perhaps originates from a four-dimensional plane of existance; the reaction to visible light and the lack thereof when exposed to invisible wavelengths suggests that the object may exist in another plane of dimensions entirely, and that the current shape may only be a reflection of its actual form. Following Incident 014, ██/██/98, the device emits a low-frequency hum said to cause confusion, dizzyness and hallucination, possible side-effects of the exposure to a four-dimensional object attempting to exist in our own reality.
The device appeared in the town of Yungay in the Atacama Desert, abandoned following drought, and emmitted heat exceeding five thousand degrees; operatives were dispatched and a containment field set up. The device was found buried under fourty metres of molten glass and rock, and was quickly sealed from light and brought to the ██████ facility, ████.

Incident 014, ██/██/98: Upon testing of SCP-XXX's material properties, the device appeared to "activate", and, despite the lack of projected illumination, emmitted heat and light, killing the two operatives working on it [SEE DETAIL BRIEF OW-808, ██/██/98 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION]. The device then began to emit a low-frequency but powerful hum.

Incident 23, ██/██/05: The device has doubled in size since previous measurements and now appears to ripple under invisible wavelength observation. Operatives working on it suggested that this may begin to happen as the object's projection field into our reality becomes weaker through interdimensional stresses. Further containment measures are being considered, and the device is not currently classed as a major threat, although urgent observation is reccommended.
