SCP-X

Containment: All known instances of SCP X are to be kept in a foam-lined case to prevent unsupervised motion. This case has been placed in a safe-class storage locker in Site-X

Project supervisor Dr. xxxx has stated that any personnel class-2 or above may access SCP-X for testing. All text produced during testing must be logged in the SCP-X transcript file, while all non-text outputs should be incinerated. All Cole Process experiments must be attended by at least one armed guard in addition to other testing personnel.

Post Incident Addendum: In order to prevent further unpredicted SCP manifestation incidents, researchers are henceforth barred from conducting any experiments on multiple instances of SCP X simultaneously. All Cole Process research is suspended until further notice and under no circumstances is SCP-x to be united outside of containment.

Description
SCP X is a collection of three spinning tops recovered by Agent Workwise from a Seattle street magician in 1973. When spun on any receptive surface, Scp-X begins to inscribe anomalous messages in black ink. Scp-X has not repeated itself in thirty-seven separate testing sessions which produced eleven thousand lines of text.

All three Scps will spin indefinitely in defiance of gravity but are otherwise halted as easily as a mundane top. Known instances each demonstrate their own specific style and subject matter consistent across testing sessions.

Scp-X-1
Outputs from Scp-x-1 take the form of a novel in the style of a 19th-Century Russian author, although the text of the work matches no known publication. Scp-x-1 began the work shortly after recovery and to date has produced twenty-three (23) chapters with no signs of stopping. It is unclear whether the Scp is composing the novel or transcribing a pre-existing work.

The novel, entitled “The Bureaucrat’s Wife”, follows the trials and travails of Ekaterina Petrova, the young wife of a disaffected low-ranking official working in 1890's St. Petersburg. The official, Gennadi Arseniov, has grown frustrated with his low station and staid home situation and begun an affair with a local artist. The developing text is available through the Scp-X output file to any interested parties.

Scp-X-2
Scp-X-2 transcribes with remarkable accuracy the thoughts and internal monologue of one randomly selected nearby individual. Testing has demonstrated that the Scp's ability has a range of about three (3) meters. If no persons are within that range when the Scp is placed in motion, the top spins in place until an individual approaches, at which point the transcription effect resumes.

Researcher xxxx had high hopes for Scp-x-2 as an advanced interrogation tool, but field testing revealed severe obstacles to Scp use. While it is simple enough to get the Scp to select the proper individual for transcription, the instance records all of the subject's thoughts, conscious and unconscious, in a mass of incoherent and unconnected words. The resulting large mass of uncategorized information requires extensive data processing and has proved less efficient than more conventional interrogation methods. Nonetheless, a “translating” software is in development which would render the Scp's outputs comprehensible and early results look promising.

Scp-X-3
Field Agent Workwise reports that immediately prior to recovery, while in possession of street magician Mr. xxxx, instance 4 provided increasingly unfeasible proposals for new magic tricks. Since coming into foundation hands, the object has only written nonsensical containment procedures referring to non-existent Scps and ostensibly sound solutions to persistent problems. It is unknown whether this indicates sentience on the part of Scp-X and testing is continuing. In the mean time, personnel are advised to disregard all of the instance's advice, no matter how reasonable it may seem.

Additional Effects

When three (or possibly more) instances are spun in close proximity, Scp-X exhibits what Dr. xxxx has labeled the “Cole Process.” During phenomenon manifestation the Scps cease to produce inscriptions and instead begin draw highly detailed sketches of physical objects in a coordinated fashion. When these sketches are “complete,” a life-sized example of the sketched object will manifest itself beside the Scp with possibly deleterious consequences to observers (See Testing Log 1).

The Scp has drawn both inanimate objects, plant products, and living animals. Existing data on the Cole Process is insufficient to identify any particular patterns in Scp outputs, though they have all been relatively harmless. The mechanics of the process—how Scp-X selects a subject to sketch, how it is manifested, etc., etc., remain unknown and Dr. xxxx highly recommends further testing of this behavior.

In light of Incident-X-097, the Cole Process is to be regarded as an unacceptable threat to site security and all such testing has been suspended. Please refer to Revision-123 for updated containment procedures.
